The City of Nedlands is excited to announce the receipt of a $17,000 grant from Lotterywest.
These funds will support the installation of four innovative bird watering stations across the
city, enhancing the habitat for local and migrating bird populations, including endangered
species.
In partnership with the Melon Hill Bushland Group, Friends of Point Resolution, and Friends
of Shenton Park Bushland, this initiative targets areas critical for the conservation of species
such as the Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo and the Forest-Red Tailed Black-Cockatoo. Both
species, listed under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999—Carnaby's as Endangered and
Forest-Red Tailed as Vulnerable—rely on the City’s bushlands and greenways during their
daily flights.
"Thanks to the generosity of Lotterywest, we are able to contribute significantly to the
preservation of our native bird species," said Mayor Argyle. "These bird watering stations will
provide safe drinking spots away from road hazards, reducing risks and supporting our
wildlife amidst increasingly dry conditions."
Positioned three to four meters above ground, these watering stations will be strategically
placed along key greenway corridors, offering birds safe access to clean water. This initiative
is part of the City's broader effort to enhance habitat management and establish greenway
corridors as safe havens for wildlife.

part of our long-term commitment to improve ecological health and sustainability in the City
of Nedlands," added Mayor Argyle.
