Pets at the Park - a fun day for the fur family

All pets great and small are invited to put their best paw forward at the Pets at the Park event at College Park, Nedlands, on Sunday 2 April from 8am to 12pm.

Pets at the Park is a fun day out for the fur family, with a Pet Show, stalls, agility and training demonstrations and kids activities to keep everyone entertained.

The event is jointly funded by Town of Claremont, City of Nedlands and Delicate Care, with the participation of Swanbourne Veterinary Centre, other local vet clinics and rangers from Nedlands, Claremont, Cottesloe and Mosman Park.

Town of Claremont Mayor Jock Barker said Pets at the Park, this year to be held at College Park, Nedlands, was a much-anticipated day out.

“We have 881 dogs and 220 cats registered with the Town which tells us the community are great animal lovers. Our rangers enjoy organising this event with City of Nedlands to celebrate the joys of owning a pet. The Pet Show is always an event highlight, with great prizes for Most Unusual Pet, Best Dressed, Most Like Their Owner and Best Trick,” Mayor Barker said.

City of Nedlands Mayor Max Hipkins said Pets at the Park was a good opportunity for owners to take advantage of free vet advice and discounted microchipping.

“We hope to encourage responsible pet ownership, from using designated dog exercise areas, picking up after pets and caring for their health. Owners are reminded it is important to microchip and register both dogs and cats with their council. This is beneficial to their health and helps rangers return them home should they go missing,” Mayor Hipkins said.

Along with the Pet Show and agility and training demonstrations, there will also be a visit from the RSPCA, Shenton Park Dog Refuge, Greyhound Angels of WA and St John Ambulance. Over 20 stalls will offer services such as pet food, pet minding, dog obedience, dog washing, animal photography, pet tag engraving and pet products.

All dogs attending the event must be on leads and cats must be in cages. For more information contact Town of Claremont on 9285 4300 or City of Nedlands on 9273 3500.
