2020 Student and Tutor Exhibition opens at Tresillian

2020 Student and Tutor Exhibition opens at Tresillian

18 September 2020

The creative content of this year’s Tresillian Student and Tutor exhibition was in part undertaken during the trying times of COVID-19, with the results an outstanding reflection of what can be achieved in isolation.

This exhibition is now in its 19th year and is a tribute to the talent of Tresillian students and their tutors, with the body of work a testament to the ‘Enduring nature of art: its power to connect us and spread joy and inspiration when we need it most’.

For many artists, the lock down period provided a great opportunity to work without interruption on pursuits they most enjoy.

Tresillian tutors also used these challenging times to inspire students to think of those on the COVID frontline.  The result was a selection of unique handpainted cards that were ultimately gifted to healthcare workers at COVID clinics across the metropolitan area.

When Tresillian reopened for Term 3 in July, the students returned in droves, embracing the chance to again work with fellow students under the guidance of much-admired tutors, while attending their favourite community arts centre.

While most students and tutors reside in the western suburbs some, such as Diane Lofts-Taylor from Mullaloo, travel long distances to Tresillian for the quality tuition and inspiration they gain from professional artist tutors.

Current tutors at Tresillian Arts Centre include; Ian de Souza, Judy Rogers, Rob Forlani, Stephanie Reisch, Naomi Grant, Sue Hibbert, Mitzi Smith, Caroline Marinovich, Myra Staffa, Fiona Buchanan, Kim Gillespie and more.

Visitors to the exhibition have a chance to win a $200 Tresillian Arts Centre voucher when voting in the $500 People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Taylor Rd IGA.

In 2020, Tresillian celebrates 40 years as a local Art and Culture centre, where community members can learn new skills, attend vibrant exhibitions and foster a love of the arts.

Doors open for the Tresillian Student and Tutor Exhibition on Friday 2 October and will run until Sunday 18 October 2020. Gallery open daily from 10am – 4pm.

Tresillian Arts Centre is located at 21 Tyrell Street Nedlands.
