Following the judging of the City of Nedlands most popular annual arts competition, five young photography enthusiasts have been chosen as winners for 2020.

Entries were open to amateur photographers aged 12 - 25 years vying to win one of five prizes from a $2,000 prize pool.

This year’s theme: “Silver linings” - responding to and interpreting “Isolation” through photographic imagery, attracted a record number of entries from around Western Australia.

The winners are:

•Maksim Pavic - Resident’s Award (for local residents)

•Jason Wong - Open Award (for all eligible entrants)

•Nicholas Warrand - Mobile Award (using a phone camera)

•Ryan Ausden - Emerge Award (capturing life in City of Nedlands)

•Benjamin Mitchell - Under 18 Award

City of Nedlands Mayor, Cilla de Lacy congratulated the winners at the presentation, noting the diversity of the entries.

“This topic was thought-provoking and resulted in a range of images depicting very different aspects of ‘isolation’,” Mayor de Lacy said.

The competition also benefited greatly from having professional photographers on the judging panel along with a contemporary student of photography and design.

Entries were exhibited on @nedlands_yac Instagram page where a panel of judges selected the winners for all categories.
