The City of Nedlands, in partnership with the Friends of Allen Park, Swanbourne Coastal Alliance and Western Australian Planning Commission’s Coastwest Grants Program, has successfully completed its greenway project on the northern portion of Swanbourne Oval.
The project aims to increase the ecological integrity of the entire coastal corridor by enhancing green linkages to adjacent bushland north and south in Cottesloe and Cambridge areas.
More than 5,500 local provenance species have been planted during the winter months and invasive weeds will continue to be controlled across the site throughout the year.
This project will assist the City in the control of environmental weeds as well as increase habitat and improve ecological corridors.
Mayor Cilla de Lacy says the City is proud of its abundant natural environment.
“This combined greenway project is a credit to the organisations involved and will help conserve and expand local plant communities while creating safe havens for wildlife throughout the City,” Ms de Lacy said.
Large scale greening projects incorporating native plantings are also taking place along the Swan River.
