Tresillian Arts Centre welcomes new public art acquisition

The City of Nedlands’ latest public art acquisition, ‘Inspired by Rosie’ by West Australian artist Tania Spencer, has been installed at Tresillian Arts Centre in Nedlands.

The artist, Tania Spencer is a renowned Western Australian artist from Lake Grace.  She has a BA from Curtin university and has exhibited extensively in WA and NSW.

Recommended by the City of Nedlands’ Arts Committee and purchased from Sculpture by the Sea, ‘Inspired by Rosie’ is a 2m high finely crafted sculpture, combining the textile technique of knitting, with the rural materials of fencing wire and steel. The work pays homage to the artist’s grandmother.

“The sculpture has been placed in new landscaped grounds of Tresillian Arts Centre creating a graceful entry statement to our much-loved community Arts and Learning facility,” said Lisa Macfarlane Reid, Arts Centre Coordinator.

“Growing up on a farm has influenced Tania’s art process which fuses rural and domestic heritage and her work contributes to the conversation by highlighting the handmade nature of domestic textiles.”
Tresillian Arts Centre is located at 21 Tyrell St, Nedlands and visitors are welcome.
