New Emergency Department planned for Hollywood Hospital

Development Application - open for comment until 5pm 23 October 2019

Plans for additions to Hollywood Hospital at 101 Monash Avenue, Nedlands have been submitted to the City of Nedlands for consideration.

The development proposes:

• 90 beds, consisting of 3 x 30 wards

• Ground floor pharmacy, pathology and nuclear medicine

• Emergency department and ambulance drop-off area

• 14 drop-off car parking bays inclusive of 2 universal access bays

• Staff facility improvements

• Existing radiology façade upgrades, and

• Associated landscaping improvements.

The development requires the demolition of buildings including the Gastroenterology building, O'Meara Sleep Study Lab and the removal of an existing internal courtyard and associated landscaping. Many of these facilities will be relocated to the recently approved consulting centre or the new south block building the subject of this application.

The development will comply with the City's Local Planning Scheme No. 3 in terms of height, setbacks and car parking (still a substantial surplus on site). No new vehicle access is proposed to Monash Avenue with only internal access improvements proposed to facilitate this development. A traffic impact assessment has been provided by the applicants (which is available for viewing with the development plans).

The development also proposes signage with a total of six (6) signs totalling an area of 36.5m2. The amount of signage on the building (deemed to be wall signs) exceeds the area criteria of 10m2 total for a property and the number of signs per property permitted (being 2). Where the signage does not meet the required criteria, the signage is to be assessed against the objectives of the policy.
