What is Access and Inclusion?

All residents contribute to the vibrant social, economic and cultural life of our local community and the City of Nedlands is committed to ensuring equitable access to services, events, facilities and information provision within its control. The City actively works towards meeting the specific needs of people with disability, carers, seniors, parents, children, and culturally and linguistically diverse members of our community.

Access is about ensuring all people are able to access information, services and facilities. Inclusion is about ensuring that all people can fully participate in activities and services provided by the City. The goal is to create a place where people of all ages, abilities, and nationalities feel welcome and supported.

Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

The Disability Services Act 1993 requires all Local Governments to develop and implement a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) to ensure people with disabilities have equal access to facilities and services.

The City of Nedlands Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2018/19 – 2023/24 was developed with input from the community and was lodged with the Department of Communities.

The primary focus of the DAIP is to provide equitable access and opportunity for people with disability, but the plan also benefits other groups of people within our community such as seniors, youth, and people from minority groups who may face language or cultural barriers.

Our DAIP is available to view online through the links below. It is also available in alternative formats on request, including standard and large print, electronically via email and in digital audio format. Please contact the Community Development Officer (Events and Access) using any of the methods listed on our Contact Us webpage.
