On 28th June 2023, 330 Hollywood Primary School students from pre-primary to Year 6, joined the Friends of Hollywood Reserve to plant 660 native seedlings and trees in the reserve.
This is an annual event co-ordinated by the Friends of Hollywood Reserve where each year students from pre-primary to Year 6 plant native seedlings to help conserve the reserve and provide habitat for fauna, including native bees and Black Cockatoos.
This event helps the students engage with nature and learn about the need to protect remnant urban bushland areas. They also have become very skilled at planting by attending the event each year from pre-primary to Year 6.
Councillor Ben Hodson who attended the event informed the students that they were helping to rehabilitate remnant urban bushlands that are very important for the future.
The City’s bushland conservation program would be a challenging task if not for the assistance provided by Friends groups and student groups.
