United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, safeguard the environment, and ensure that everyone lives in peace and prosperity by 2030. Our generation's most significant challenge is to achieve sustainable development.
In 2015, the Australian Government, together with all United Nations member states, committed to an overarching framework for global development, titled Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (the 2030 Agenda). It outlines 17 ambitious goals supported by 169 targets and 231 indicators designed to measure progress at a national level. On September 28 2022, the City of Nedlands signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UN, becoming a signatory to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Over the next 10 years, the City of Nedlands will strive to achieve the community’s vision; to be sustainable and responsible for a bright future. Our Council's aspirations for our future are reflected in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which address the social, economic, and environmental challenges that impact all humans on a global and local level. Our residents highly value the ideals behind these goals, with the top community priorities being responsible growth and development, planning and building approvals, streetscapes, trees and verges, development of the town centre and local shopping areas, and efforts to promote and adopt sustainable practices to manage climate change.
